EDITORIAL

As in previous years, the CEC is dedicating an entire issue to highlight this year’s Jeu de temps / Times Play competition. JTTP is an annual multi-leveled project aimed at promoting and celebrating new electroacoustic works from young and/or emerging sound artists/composers from (or living in) Canada.

For the 2005 edition of the competition, 36 composers submitted their work. An international jury of 22 members adjudicated the works. Although this has already been made public, we would like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate the composers of the top five works selected by the jury (in order of placement):

1) James Duhamel – Le Radeau (2005)
2) Martin Bédard – Topographie de la noirceur (2005)
3) Delphine Measroch – Machin Machine (2005)
4) Samuel Beaudoin – n'importe quoi (2005)
5) Ivan Elezovic – Almost there... (2001)

This edition of eContact! makes ALL submissions available for listening, as well as providing programme notes and composer biographical notes. The works are also available in SONUS, the CEC’s electroacoustic “jukebox” (which now contains just under 1600 works!).

The larger JTTP project is supported by CEC membership, and by donations and services offered by numerous individuals and organizations. This issue offers an opportunity for us to thank everyone for their contributions to the project.

Project donors contribute to the prizes offered to the composers of the top 5 works selected by the jury; radio broadcast of the top 5 works has already taken place, thanks to the continued support of our Media Partners (more are to follow); concert performance of the top 11 works which are to appear on the CD Cache 2005, will take place in February 2006, during the XXIV series of EuCuE (Électroacoustiques université Concordia university Electroacoustics).

The CEC extends hearty thanks to all who submitted works to the competition, to the jury members for their time and commitment to the project, and of course to all our donors and media partners. All these individuals and orgranizations contribute in a very important manner to the success of this competition.

On a final note, note that next year’s deadline for submission is May 1, 2006.
