Tape nights in Sydney
Recently a small group of people have started holding tape nights in Sydney under ACMA's aegis. The idea is simply to play electronic and computer music and talk about it. Our own music if we have anything ready, but otherwise whatever people like to bring along, new or old, Australian or overseas.
A couple of highlights from the events so far:
- Densil Cabrera's tracks, produced by speeding up (by a factor of 1000 or more) recordings of seismographic events, atmospheric pressure and the tides around Australia. There was a particularly impressive bang produced by an earthquake in Western Australia.
- Jon Drummond's new album of live improvisations with a VCS3 and a modern re-implementation. Some really harsh timbres, quite unlike what I've heard of Jon's previous work. Someone said, "think really grungy warehouse dance party..."
We plan to continue these meetings, and will hold them approximately once a month.
