Sift

7:07

Sift is a piece about magnification and extraction. It derives it’s material by looking at fragments of sound from different perspectives. Viewing from these perspectives reveal the large quantity of useful material within the fragments. The sounds recreate themselves and diversify by influencing each other. No sound is left untouched by others, each playing an integral part in the events that both follow and preceed. Sift was written with the guidance of Dr. Tony Hood. First performed at ACMA 98 in Canberra and later at MusicSpace 99 in Singapore.

Damien Lock was a Sydney-based composer who recently re-located to Singapore to take up a position at Ngee Ann Polytechnic as an International Fello. He completed a music composition degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying (mainly) with Dr. Greg Schiemer.
